Sad news:
Sadly it has been announced recently that the Malta Aviation Society (MAS) has now ceased all preparations for the Malta International Airshow 2020

"The Malta Aviation Society (MAS) announces that having worked hard, together with the Ministry for Tourism, to organize the Malta International Airshow 2020, it has now ceased all preparations for the event.

The main reason that brought the MAS to the decision is that Malta International Airport plc (MIA) - Malta’s operator of the country’s only airport - refused to provide adequate parking space for airshow aircraft. The MAS is not convinced that the two aircraft parking ramps requested form part of the core operations of MIA. MAS has gathered daily information of aircraft using such parks over the last days. The evidence clearly shows that both parks are seldom used and when they are there are hardly more than five visiting aircraft.

The MAS takes the opportunity to also thank the Malta Air Traffic Services for its full support while preparations where underway.

The Malta Aviation Society is saddened to see that the government of Malta did not put enough effort to insist with MIAplc to provide the space required, thus precluding Malta from having its own proper airshow like every other European country."

And it’s back on again!

The Malta Aviation Society (MAS) and the Ministry for Tourism would like to announce that the Malta International Airshow 2020 will be taking place on September 26-27 2020.

MAS President, Mr Joe Ciliberti, explained how the present works around Malta’s airport offered a golden opportunity for the event to be back on Malta’s calendar of events after an absence of two years. The Malta Aviation Society never stopped in its efforts to ensure that Malta has its own airshow like every other European country.

Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi said that after several discussions and negotiations with the Malta Aviation Society and relevant stakeholders, an agreement was reached in order to re-introduce the Malta International Airshow in 2020. “The Malta International Airshow will be another key addition to the Visit Malta calendar of events and will attract a number of visitors and enhance niche tourism. We will keep working closely with all stakeholders involved to make sure that this event is successful.”

Having started in 1993. The Malta International Airshow 2020 will be the 26th edition of this very popular event attended by thousands of Maltese families as well as local and foreign aviation enthusiasts. Over the years the Malta Aviation Society, via the airshow, has helped in attracting youths towards aviation which in turn feed the ever-growing Malta’s fast-growing aviation industry.

Mr Ciliberti thanked the Minister and his staff for making the Airshow 2020 possible, as well as the Malta Tourism Authority, Malta Air Traffic Services, Malta Industrial Parks and SrTechnics.

Some good news, at last, the Malta Aviation Society(MAS) confirmed this morning that the Malta International Airshow 2020 will take place as planned during the last weekend of September.

While it's still unclear what aircraft we can expect to see in the flying display we can certainly expect to see the Air Wing of the Armed Forces of Malta and their fleet of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. Earlier in the year Polish air Force confirmed the plans to send their F-16 Tiger Demo Team to the event it is unclear at this moment if the team is still planning to display at the event but talks with the team are still ongoing.

It is also unclear at this moment if there will be a Static display at this year's event, more on that closer to the date.

We are currently working on a new airshow calendar with all the airshows which plan to go ahead this year but for now, enjoy some of the pictures from the 2017 MIA!

PARTICIPANTS UPDATE❗️❗️:

The Malta Aviation Society, organizers of the Malta International Airshow may now confirm participation of the Guardia di Finanza at this year’s event.

The GdiF will participate in the static display with two brand new platforms, namely an ATR72MP aircraft and an AW169 helicopter.

While preparations continue for the Malta Int’l Airshow 2020, the organizing committee will be following and adhering to all national rules and regulations that may be introduced in the few remaining weeks to the event.
