An hour ago the last scheduled The Boeing Company B747-passenger flight of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines arrived back at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The aircraft, PH-BFT, came from Mexico City as KL686, marking the end of 49 years of passenger operations with the Jumbojet.

A sad moment accelerated by the Coronavirus outbreak.

The B747 was a true icon in the KLM-fleet, which took delivery of their first one back in 1971. Over the years KLM operated 42 passenger B747s.

New Gulfstream for USAF

As expected, on 25 March 2020, the US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) delivered the latest C-37B to the 99th Airlift Squadron/ 89th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Andrews (MD)

USAF tail number 1947 (18-1947, construction number 5592) will not be the last. As part of the programme, two additional C-37Bs will be delivered by the end of Fiscal Year 21, bringing the fleet to 16 aircraft. Strikingly, unusual for USAF executive aircraft, the latest delivered Gulfstreams (Including serial number 18-1942) do not wear the blue/ white colours. This is probably not to stand out too much, and make the aircraft look more like a general executive aircraft.

The C-37B is a twin-engined turbofan aircraft acquired to fulfill special air missions, taking high ranking government and Defense Department officials all over the world. The C-37B is based on the high altitude intercontinental Gulfstream 550. With a crew of five, the aircraft can carry 12 passengers and has a range of 6750 nautical miles (7,768 miles).

New Heritage Hangar at Oostwold (The Netherlands)

Tom Karst van der Meulen is the owner of Vliegbedrijf (Flying Services) Tom van der Meulen. He is also the owner of well-known Dutch North American P-51D Mustang 'Damn Yankee' (PH-PSI). Van der Meulen had a dream: he wanted to build a hangar exclusively for his historic aircraft. And his dream has come true as the newly built "Heritage Hangar Oostwold" (HHO) was recently completed. This HHO is large enough to house his aircraft: North American P-51D Mustang (PH-PSI), North American Harvard (PH-KLU), Boeing Stearman (PH-TOX) and Piper PA-18 Super Cub (PH-TOM).

Originally, the new Heritage Hangar Oostwold was to be officially opened on 3 April 2020, but due to COVID-19 this has been postponed.

Not only KLM is saying goodbye to its iconic The Boeing Company B747-400s today; Qantas is doing the same as well.

A few minutes ago, flight QF28, using B747-400ER VH-OEE, arrived at Sydney from Santiago, marking the last passenger flight of the Jumbojet with the Australian airline.

The airline still had five B747-400ERs in its fleet. All of them were sold and will be ferried to the US for storage in the near future.

Qantas’ relationship with the B747 started in 1971. Over the years it has operated 65 of them.
