The Air & Water Show is not in the city’s budget at the moment for 2021. DCASE will be running on a limited budget and the budget doesn’t include the Air & Water Show or the Taste of Chicago at this time. Budget cutbacks were expected with COVID.
Now, this does not mean that the show has officially been cancelled. It’s still a holding pattern and a bit of a “wait and see”. All requests will remain active at the present time. Mayor Lightfoot said it herself that “now is not the time to be thinking of major outdoor events with millions of people”. Hopefully we can begin to think of those soon and the event can get back on track.
The media will continue to report it for the next few days, but know the plug is not officially pulled. But the planning has sort of ceased at the moment with city budget guidelines.

Not shocking - without COVID under control it's kind of useless to plan a huge crowded event like that (no drive-in airshow for downtown Chicago!) and even once it is controlled who knows if municipal budgets will allow for some of the shows that we've had in the past. The economical impact is far from over.Bretten Bailey wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 4:39 am The Air & Water Show is not in the city’s budget at the moment for 2021. Especially in a big city like Chicago, a large airshow with giant crowds of people is their very last priority. They should probably hold up on spending anything on it right now simply because we don't know if Covid will be under control at that time.RyanS wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 1:18 pmNot shocking - without COVID under control it's kind of useless to plan a huge crowded event like that (no drive-in airshow for downtown Chicago!) and even once it is controlled who knows if municipal budgets will allow for some of the shows that we've had in the past. USAF F-35A Lightning II Demo Team confirmed for Chicago 2021. Fingers crossed that COVID-19 will be under control in time.

Doesn't look like the Air & Water Show will take place this year.

Hasn't been cancelled yet. It is definitely an uphill battle, but its all still pending. The city has plans to fully open by July 4th and that could help determine this. Isn't looking good, but there's a glimmer of hope still.n33d4sp33d_85 wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 9:34 pm Doesn't look like the Air & Water Show will take place this year.

You are correct. Since they plan to reopen the city "completely" by July 4th, there's still a chance the airshow may go on to some capacity.Bretten Bailey wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 2:48 pmHasn't been cancelled yet. The F-35A Lightning II Demo Team won't be attending Chicago this year.

That's probably a good sign the show will be canceled, unfortunately.n33d4sp33d_85 wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 5:09 pm The F-35A Lightning II Demo Team won't be attending Chicago this year.
