2022 Good Neighbor Day Open House & Airshow
May 14, 2022
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport
Atlanta, GA
Fresh off the press of Django Studios, here is the poster of the 2022 Good Neighbor Day Open House & Airshow. After 5 years of absence, we are back with a great event. This year we will celebrate the 80th anniversary +1 of NAS Atlanta. We'll have 33 warbirds flying in the show, including the Military Aviation Museum's PBY Catalina, FG-1D Corsair, TBM Avenger, FM-2 Wildcat, and a Skyraider which was based at NAS Atlanta in Chamblee in the mid-'50s. Other NAVY warbirds include the CAF Airbase Georgia's SBD Dauntless and the FG-1D Corsair which was based in Chamblee between 1950 and 1952. The CAF will contribute to the show with the SoCal WIng's F6F Hellcat, B-25 Devil Dog, SB2C Helldiver, and the Beech-18. Other performers include Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, Mr. Thom Richard, and his P-40 'American Dream', Team LIMA LIMA, Stearman, and SNJ/T-6 formations. On the static ramp, you'll find the USAF VR Flight Simulator station, plenty of other warbirds, hopefully, modern US NAVY assets, and the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation's C-54 with the 'Flying Museum' finally completed. I have no doubt that this is going to be one of the best airshows in the southeast this year. Come see us on May 14th!

This one is only 2 weeks out - has anyone been in the past and can comment on things like best time to go, parking and event layout etc.? Trying to see if it is worth making the trip down from CLT, their lineup looks impressive, but with it being a free event of limited time it has the potential to be crowded & hectic. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

It's not really free, they are charging $15 per car. I attended their warbird weekend events there in the past and it wasn't overcrowded and they were charging $10/car then. These were not billed as airshows even though there was plenty of flying so I do expect the crowd to be a bit larger. It is a small airport so you park off site and shuttle bus in/out. I would get there early as possible because on a good day Atlanta traffic is merely bad. :) The crowdline is on the ramp with the hot ramp area right in front of you.

Does anyone know what the actual schedule is on this one - there are conflicting times on the various forms of media. Some say parking opens at 9 AM, some say 10 AM, some say the flying starts at noon and some say 1-5PM?

Sadly, all of the Military Aviation Museum's airplanes; PBY Catalina, FG-1D Corsair, TBM Avenger, FM-2 Wildcat, and a Skyraider are weathered in and can't make it as usual for VA. Beach in May. The CAF SoCal Helllcat is in Searcy, Arkansas and hopefully will make it in tomorrow.

That's a bummer! Still looking to be a decent warbird show tho! I'll be flying up there in the morning with a couple of guys in a Beech 18. We have a T-6 who will be meeting up with us there. Looking forward to it!

Yeah, I found it in a hanger at FFC having some maintenance done. I also found Jack Knutson's old Extra 300S there (now Jerry Esquenazi's) getting a new panel. The things you find in hangers haha. See you there!
