Aviation Nation 2018 Cancelled?
Just a head's up that reports are saying that Aviation Nation is cancelled. Anybody have any feed back on that? "https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.p ... &width=500"

ICAS listed it as cancelled and the Thunderbirds don't have it on the schedule of their official website either. Would be a huge bummer if this is true..

This would be a big blow to the airshow season. The last time the show was cancelled was in 2015. I believe 2015 was cancelled due to runway construction? Hopefully we get an official statement from Nellis AFB and are given a reason as to why the 2018 edition is off.

Sadly, the show has been cancelled.. A friend of mine confirmed it. I remember last year talking with one of the aggressor pilots and he told me that the show was supposed to start being biannual starting in 2016. They still chose to do a 2017 show to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Air Force. So it looks like Nellis is on pace to go 2019, 2021, 2023, etc.

Thanks for the info AerialZulu. That makes a ton of sense considering the majority of base shows in the US are now bi-annual shows. Some actually can go more then 2 years without having shows. Gone are the days of a base having shows annually (sequestration, military operations, etc)AerialZulu wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 7:27 am Sadly, the show has been cancelled.. This is shocking news for such a prominent show. As Dan pointed out though, a lot of military bases are moving to biennial airshows. Perhaps it may be a good thing to keep the show lineup fresh and allow those involved with the planning and execution of the show some down time. It is still surprising to see such a well-known military show go this route however, if that is indeed what the plan is.

Dan mentioned this to me and I was waiting on some confirmation before making a big deal out of it. Very surprising for it to only be announced AFTER the 2018 schedule was set. I was actually somewhat confident that I would go this year since I will have more vacation time at the end of the season. I guess I might just sit on it until next year and do something really awesome.
I've seen a comment from a European who lost $2500 of travel plans when Melbourne shifted one week, I can't imagine how many people might have been planning on Nellis that are now totally screwed. Hell, we were suggesting it right here on the forums! Very poor management to let it be scheduled then removed with no announcement.

Yes tell us about it we had booked to attend from New Zealand, it would have helped to keep the web site updated or even changer their great app. Ken.

Kengee, I am in a similar situation. I already had flights booked from the UK to visit the airshow. It is extremely frustrating - made more frustrating by the lack of any meaningful communication from the base itself.
I noticed that the base do tours for groups of 10 or more - Kengee (and others in our position) if you PM me I can see if we can get a group together to at least do a tour so we will at least see something of Nellis!
