Help Build a Permanent Home for Lancaster FM212

Post by Rhino93 » Sat May 27, 2023 5:52 pm

We're asking for the publics help in ensuring that all of the hard work that has gone into restoring and preserving Lancaster FM212 won't be in vain. This is a project I've been involved in for many years. We would like to see the city make the right move and allow the aircraft to be kept in a new facility indoors beside its current location at the Canadian Aviation Museum in Windsor, Ontario. See below for more info!

"As we near the completion of the restoration of Lancaster FM212, the City of Windsor, who own the aircraft, have chosen to ask the public's opinion as to its final home. We applaud City Council's decision to do this as the Lancaster is near and dear to the hearts of Windsorites. After 16 years and over 80,000 volunteer man-hours to repair the damage caused by time, the elements and vandalism while FM212 was in Jackson Park, as well as over $600,000 of the museum's funds, it goes without saying that the aircraft must be kept indoors from this day onward.
There is adequate space immediately next door to our existing hangar at Windsor International Airport (YQG), owned by the City of Windsor, and we feel this is the appropriate spot for the aircraft's new home. Our volunteers will continue to maintain, display and tell her story at no charge to the City. After all, who knows FM212 better than us?
On Friday June 2nd and Saturday 3rd, we will open our doors free of charge to all who wish to come and view the progress of the restoration. We hope those of you who are nearby will join us. For those who cannot, we have launched a petition online to promote our concept and invite you all to sign it to show your support. The link is below. Once the City has officially launched their survey, we will post a link to it as well.
As always, we appreciate your support in the restoration of our Lancaster!
