Wow, what a day. I don't think I've ever seen so many non-weather-related cancellations at an airshow, ever.
Just some of the hurdles of the last 36 hours or so:
USAF KC-135 - cancelled this morning due to operational reasons
Belgian Air Force NH90 - cancelled due to a technical problem yesterday, which prevented them from validating
Royal Navy Black Cats - cancelled due to operational reasons, Westland Wasp draughted in as a last-minute replacement
Tutor - cancelled yesterday due to a fleet-wide grounding
Jet Provost - cancelled due to a technical problem, replaced yesterday by a Stearman which also had technical problems, but flew eventually
Jet Pitts - cancelled late last week due to a paperwork problem, replaced with non-jet Pitts
Vampire (which was itself standing in for an aircraft that cancelled due to technical problem) - cancelled this afternoon due to a technical problem
BBMF Lancaster - delayed due to a technical problem, missed its rendez-vous with the Typhoon causing the cancellation of the Dambusters display
And that doesn't even include the Catalina and B-17, which cancelled a couple of weeks ago.
A quite remarkable job by the air ops team who somehow managed to keep the show on the road, and delivered what felt like a full-length, fluid flying display despite having lost half of their line up at extremely short notice, with the running order changing almost by the minute right up until the very last act.

A few clips. Both Patrouille Suisse and the RAF Typhoon were outstanding. The Hercules flypast was the type's final ever airshow appearance in RAF hands, ahead of its retirement later this month.

Mid-June heralded the return of the RAF Cosford Air Show, the Royal Air Force’s last remaining ‘At Home Day.’ It is one of the most popular ticketed airshows in the UK, attracting around 55,000 spectators to the home of RAF Engineering, the RAF School of Physical Training and the Defence School of Photography. As well as all the available Royal Air Force displays, the show featured a varied mix of displays from international military partners and civilian operators. Last paragraph hits the nail on the head, I think. A thoughtful review of an immensely tricky day and I agree with your conclusions entirely.
