Verne Jobst recently passed away. He was an aerobatic pilot, airline/corporate pilot, general aviation pilot, Warbird pilot, vintage pilot, glider pilot, balloon pilot, flight instructor air boss, former IAC President, IAC Hall of Famer, and air-show chairman at the Experimental Aircraft Association`s annual Fly-In Convention.
He held the follow ratings:
Pilot: Airline Transport - Airplane Single Engine Land
Pilot : Airline Transport - Airplane Multiengine Land
Pilot: Airline Transport - Airplane Multiengine Sea
Pilot: Commercial - Airplane Single Engine Sea
Pilot: Commercial - Glider
Pilot: Commercial - Lighter-Than-Air Free Balloon
Flight Instructor - Airplane Single And Multiengine
Flight Instructor - Instrument Airplane
Flight Instructor - Glider
From 1970 to 1991, Jobst was the air-show chairman at the Experimental Aircraft Association`s annual Fly-In Convention and Sport Aviation Exhibition held the end of July and early August in Oshkosh, Wis. He was also the director of all flight operations during the convention, the world`s largest, which is held at the same time as the air show. He also joined the EAA board where he served for many years. He piloted a wide variety of aircraft including EAA's B-17G Flying Fortress Aluminum Overcast and EAA's Spirit of St. Louis replica.
Verne Jobst succeeded Bob Heuer as the International Aerobatic Club (IAC) President in 1973. He continued the basic concept of the club and helped to refine its objectives to keep pace with its growth. Under Jobst, the IAC membership doubled. He continued in office until 1978. He had previously served as editor of the IAC Publication, Sport Aerobatics.
In November 1991, he retired as United Airlines` most senior pilot, with a total of 40 years of service.
He was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 1988, Flight Instructors Hall of Fame in 1999, and in 2020 was inducted into the IAC Hall of Fame.
Verne was an active competition pilot in the Advanced category flying a Pitts Special S-1S.
