What EF4 tornado damage? I don't recall hearing about a tornado hitting the base in the recent tornado outbreak.ItzColinHere wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 1:00 pm This event could possibly be canceled due to devastating EF4 tornado damage. Not ruling it out, but it could.

If I recall, an EF4 tornado ripped through Lincoln and hit around 30 planes a the AFB. I heard them discussing it at a Civil Air Patrol meeting last night.passedgas46 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 2:12 pmWhat EF4 tornado damage? That’s at the Epply airport on the other side of Omaha, Offutt had zero damage.

I think you're once again mistaken.ItzColinHere wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 2:50 pm If I recall, an EF4 tornado ripped through Lincoln and hit around 30 planes a the AFB. I heard them discussing it at a Civil Air Patrol meeting last night.
Lincoln, NE is not anywhere near Offutt AFB. Unless they pulled a Simpsons and moved the entire city or town several miles closer, I do believe Lincoln is about 40-50 miles away as the crow flies. There are military planes in Lincoln but that number is a fraction of the number you quoted.
I've googled "Offutt AFB tornado" and got no results from the last 30 days that mentions any of those. However, I do recall seeing aerial photos from Eppley Airfield in Omaha showing several rows of T-hangars completely destroyed and Pipers, a Honda Jet, some 182s, twins, Malibu, and even a Nanchang CJ6A in ruins from an EF2 tornado that hit last week. That could have been upgraded to an EF4 after the initial damage assessment. Thank god no one was hurt.
Much like the military bases that would be in the path of a landfalling tropical system, the bases in the Midwest seem to also have pretty good contingency plans for their aircraft in case severe storms are forecasted. I live relatively close to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and they got several KC-135s from McConnell AFB that were evacuated from that last storm. Heard the KC-46s went to New Hampshire. It would not surprise me if Offutt briefly evacuated aircraft ahead of those storms.

Guess this turned partially tornado thread here haha.
The only EF4 of the tornado outbreak occurred in Oklahoma. The Omaha Metro area was hit by an EF3 and Omaha’s airport took a direct hit. Offutt had most of their birds on the ground but were unaffected by this supercell as it tracked well north of the base.
While Omaha and some suburbs have some damage, it shouldn’t really have an effect on the event as the host site wasn’t hit. If there was major infrastructure damage closer to the base, including hotels being heavily damaged, then maybe we’d look at some changes but all other things considered, show should be fine.

I just realized that the people on the Civil Air Patrol meeting were talking about the tornado that hit offutt in 2017. I apologize for the inconvenience.
