Swiss Air Force 2019 airshow schedules

Post by Adam » Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:07 am

I'll post the Swiss AF schedules in this thread. They usually come out in a batch in late January. The first was the Swiss PC-7 Team yesterday.

They have three international shows; Sunderland in the UK, NATO Days in the Czech Republic and Gijon in France. It's great to see the team supporting one of the less important UK shows.

21 - 24. February FIS Ski Weltcup Crans-Montana Crans-Montana
17 - 19. May Fête des musiques Gruériennes Les Moulins
24 - 25. May Tag der Öffentlichkeit Emmen Emmen
29. May - 01. Jun Heliweekend Grenchen Grenchen
29 - 31. May Gewerbe- und Erlebnisausstellung Buochs Buochs
21 - 22. June Eidgenössisches Turnfest Aarau Aarau
28 - 29. June 15. Flüügerchilbi Beromünster Beromünster
05 - 07. July Züri Fäscht Seebecken Zürich
19 - 21. July International Gijon Airshow Gijon, ESP
26 - 28. July Sunderland Airshow Sunderland, UK

30 - 31. August Huntertag St. Stephan St. Stephan
06 - 07. September Flüüger-Fäscht Schmerlat Schmerlat, Schaffhausen
20 - 22. September Czech Air Force Days Ostrava, CZ
04 - 05. October 40. Modellflugtag Hausen am Albis Hausen am Albis
11 - 12. October Air & Space Days Luzern Verkehrshaus, Luzern
11 - 12. December Brevetierung Vitznau

By less important airshows, do you mean one of the biggest airshow audiences of the year and probably one of the biggest spectator events of any kind in the North East?

Okay, "important" wasn't the best choice of words. "Internationally-significent" may express my point better.

Am I right in saying this will be the first time Sunderland has hosted a foreign national aerobatic team?

They've had a good number of international military and civilian displays. The Royal Jordanian Falcons probably take the "first" international National Aerobatic Team title but the PC-7 Team are probably the biggest military display team to participate.

They've also had the Russian Test PIlots duo, USAF B-52 (on more than one occasion), F-117A (I think together with Biggin Hill, Sunderland is the only other UK civilian show to see a F-117 in the display). Up until quite recently the Royal Netherlands and Belgian Air Force F-16 solos were regulars as well.

Importance of events maybe subjective, but the case of annual airshow attendance in the UK if the likes of Bournemouth, Sunderland and Eastbourne have a bad year [ie. poor weather on one or more days] it puts a noticeable dent in the annual attendance figures.

It is however a great boost for Sunderland to have the PC-7 Team, particularly when they **could** be the first major seafront event of the summer to be without the Red Arrows. They are also due some better luck with the weather!

Fair dos, it's got a much more illustrious history than I'd thought. All that's before my time, I've only known Sunderland in the era of The Blades and the NoAF HSqn MiG-15 again... and... again... every... damn... year...

This'll be great for them, though. Seaside shows generally have been stuck in a rut for the past five years or so and it''s very nice to see something new and a little unexpected. Top marks to the Swiss who really do send their assets to a mix of different UK shows rather than just focussing on RIAT.
