Looking at the sample schedule it looks like it is mostly the lighter classes in the first couple days, plus airshow practices. I was originally planning to be there for the whole event but I'm reconsidering now. Would love some input!
I've been getting there Friday morning for the past 20 years and even as a die hard Reno fan I don't really feel like I've missed anything. If you REALLY don't want to miss out on things, sometimes the qualifying days can get pretty dramatic. If you just want to see the important racing, Friday-Sunday is all you need. You can also watch the livestream Thursday which helps give an idea of how things will shake out over the weekend in all the classes.

Really intrigued to get your opinion on the event! My personal favorite event of the year by far and hopefully that'll never change.

Four starting so far. I want to leave a critical review but I’ll wait a few days to see if I still feel this way. Trying to grasp if I really enjoyed it or not. I never had ambition to go but was invited by one of the groups I work for. The friends and camaraderie made it worth it at least.
