We were in the traffic line about 0830 and it took us a hour and a half to get from where the backup started on PCH, into the base and parked. It then took us another hour and a half to almost 2 hours standing in line to get into the airshow. Only to find out as we got near the front there was a seperate entrance for VIP's and those who purchased premier seating. Could there have been more signage informing people of this? Sure. Could traffic control have been handled better, sure. But talking to an active duty member at the airshow, I was informed that they were estimating over 300,000 people where there on Saturday alone. Again, when you don't have a local airshow (I grew up in and live in Ventura County) in 8 years, you are going to have a lot of people show up for it. But once inside, the airshow itself was great. The static displays and concessions were all well spaced out. There was plenty to see and do. As someone whose Dad retired out of Point Mugu after a 22 year Navy career, being there felt like old times. It was good to be back "home"
Even though it was the first airshow in 8 years, that is still NO excuse for the poor planning on the airshow staff and the naval base. They should have realized and anticipated that many many people would show up for the show and have been prepared. To me they completely failed. Thousands were left disappointed as they were eventually turned away. There has been no response on their part on FB or anywhere. I myself came from Northern California and much to my disappointment could not get into the airshow. In contrast, I went to Travis AFB airshow last year and man that was seamless and smooth to get into and out of the base. Hardly any delay yet thousands and thousands of people showed up.

I do. What’s it to you and the attitude. Not everyone can go to make it to March or Travis.
It’s a NAVY base. They don’t want boring tankers dude. Go to March it’s not far from point Mugu. No attitude, just don’t bitch about there being no heavies when it’s a NAVY airshow… DAMN

I'm not bitching and you are the one with the attitude who wants to comment despite the fact that the show is already over. Sheesh. The kind of people on these forums.

I haven't been on base at point mugu in a really long time, last time they held to show we couldn't even get in! thankfully i've learned me lesson and come as early as possible to airshows now, it sort of felt like more of the base than usual was closed off to me, and I wasn't a huge fan of having to setup in grass and mud, but the airshow itself was great, unfortunately the coastal weather came in at around the midpoint and alot of my photos ended up dark, I heard they ended up cancelling on Sunday as well?

The show flew on Sunday as well. Only John Collver cancelled due to strong crosswinds.

Its the committee's decision either way, what they want to bring in is whatever they want to bring in. You name it.

Here is my experience on Saturday:
First - the gates were advertised to open at 9 I believe originally, but I believe they updated that to 8am the week of the show. For everyone’s information there was an email sent to those who purchased seats or packages to arrive by 8:30 am.

8:40 Arrived at gate (Came up PCH from the south, line not backed up onto PCH at that time)
9:00 Drive through base gates
9:15 Park on ramp
10:15 Clear security (1 hour wait)

4:00-6:15 Stuck around after the show until traffic cleared shooting the sparse statics and listening to Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band
6:30 Off base

If you have been to a Pt Mugu Airshow before this was no surprise. I agree that there was not enough capacity at the sole Security entry tent for the amount of people they knew were coming.
