An update on the Long Lens Cameras at this event.
We brought up this concern at the Airshow Meeting on Tuesday afternoon. The Dyess AF Page for the Airshow will be updating their official airshow page tomorrow to remove the restriction however, folks with the Long Lens should expect to have their bags searched and are requested to check in with the Dyess AFB Public Affairs Area on the ramp.
From their Facebook feed today:
"We hear you, aircraft enthusiasts! After consulting our security forces team, we have revised this policy to allow for your cameras at the Dyess Big Country Air Fest! That being said, keep in mind that all items are subject to search. Any excessively bulky or suspicious items will be identified at the security checkpoints at the Airshow. If you are bringing professional camera gear, be sure to check in at the Dyess Public Affairs tent!
Whether you're taking photos on your phone or a long-lens camera, don't forget to tag us and on social media!

Thank you for sharing the story of our Air Force mission and people! Can't wait to see you there!"

Please remember that these Military Open Houses are not guaranteed and happen at the graciousness of the US Military, Unit and Base Commanders, and the High Level Officers of the Military. These Open Houses are not the true mission of the US Military. One of the many missions is to protect the Country and our Allies. Another is recruiting and showing the military might of the US Military. With cyber security threats, Spy Balloons, and other areas of surveillance, each Base must address their individual risk assessments to see what risks there are with entry to the base, cameras, etc. Believe me when I say that is varies from base to base.
As I have mentioned in the past, Schultz Airshows started with me as a photographer and writer for many international magazines in the 1990s. We, still to this day, have aviation enthusiasts on our Company Staff and are friends with many of you out there. As these issues come up with events in which our Company is a part of, we will address this directly with the Leadership on behalf of the photographers. It is no guarantee of a resolution, but we will try to resolve the issue. Please be respectful however when addressing these concerns on social media and other forums please.
Thank you.

Who has shot at this show before? Looking for any info but particularly sun angle. (Given the time of the two best tac demos and the orientation of the ramp, it looks like you shoot directly into the sun)…

I last attended this show in 2015 (I think) anyways, yes the afternoon is very backlit as fas a photography is concerned. Looking at the schedule in some of the previous posts, looks like the light will be great for the B-1 departures!
