Post by Adambadger88 » Thu Apr 27, 2023 11:20 pm

On April 16, 2023, United States Navy Commander (Ret.) Charles Joseph O’Brien, Jr., aged 95, better known as “Obie” to friends and neighbors and as “The Corsair Guy” within the aviation community, departed the pattern and took off toward the western horizon with a wingman from heaven. He was born February 24, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA to Charles and Dorothy O’Brien.

Flying did not end with his retirement in 1976 but continued with 24 seasons flying in exhibitions and airshows with the Miller Squadron that later became the GEICO Skytypers. He was one of the founding pilots flying for the Military Aviation Museum’s aircraft, notably as the resident Corsair guru, and most likely the oldest and last combat veteran in the world still actively flying the F4U.
