I'm going to stir the pot a little bit.

Let me start by saying that it's great that the F-35A will be there. It's certainly going to be an F-35A heavy year for my family and I and it's a damn good demo. The A-10 and Osprey seemed to be up close and personal at Latrobe and I can only imagine what the F-35A will be like.

Going back to my original question of the date change. I referenced earlier the Thunderbirds had two open weekends in August and one of them would need to be time off. Time off is now the weekend of Latrobe. It is what it is. They also put on a great show when they were in Latrobe. I've followed along with the announcements while at work and as I've stated elsewhere, I know I'm not the only one who thought it was strange that it is individual airshows are making the announcement of having the Frecce Tricolori as a headlining act and not the jet team making a "Here is our 2024 show schedule" announcement. Coincidentally, there is a very convenient opening in the schedule where Latrobe would be, based on these new dates, and it would damn near make sense geographically that they'd come to Latrobe (and one other show immediately beforehand). In my opinion, there is no way this show switched dates only to accommodate an F-35 demonstration.

I've seen the Frecce Tricolori when they were here in 1986 and 1992 and thankfully didn't have to travel far to see them - I believe the team made the announcement of tour locations but I honestly can't remember.

Regardless, I still have Latrobe on my calendar for 2024.

The same thought had occurred to me. Obviously it's all speculation at this point, but would be one heck of a coup for Latrobe. I'll probably go either way as it's effectively my "home" show.

Extremely cumbersome wording in the above article. The way it's written suggests that the F-35 was dropping in for a couple days and they decided, "Hey, let's have an air show that weekend!"

I don't want to read into the article too much, but "smaller scale" and "less expensive" are...intriguing. Will be interesting to see how they fill in around the Lightning II.

I got the impression that the F-35 was a "one-of-a-kind" airplane by the way the reporter wrote it. I'm out here shaking my head at how bad it was written; it was nowhere near the quality of the special piece the Latrobe Bulletin put out for their 2023 airshow. It's my understanding that was written and put together by someone on their staff with an aviation-oriented background.

As for the airshow, while I wasn't there last year (2022), it looked like based on videos I've seen that they had the F-16 Demo and the Super Hornet Demo there in addition to a bunch of civilian acts. They're no Thunderbirds or Blue Angels but it's still not bad for a medium-sized airshow. That piece probably also solidifies one other thing I'd been thinking about...

Set to perform at Latrobe this year is Erik Edgren and his Taylorcraft T-Clips performance.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of another good airshow.

What you forgot to mention is that the C-53 Skytrooper Beach City Baby will also be in attendance, even though it'll only be a static display.

About that... I don't know why the airport doesn't offer general admission tickets for sale online. It makes zero sense especially for people like me who don't live in the area and don't live near a SHOP 'n SAVE supermarket (we did get our general admission tickets from the Latrobe location last year).

However, the airport seems to be proactive on this. I got a message out of the blue from the airshow FB page stating "Thank you for your support. Since you are out of town, if you need to order tickets, please contact [email protected] and we will be happy to help you out." Glad to see them on the ball about this little oversight.
