Maybe a date change should be suggested for 2025? I know on here and on ICAS 2025 is listed for August 20 but my mind has me thinking a little later in the month. Perhaps that should be for the 2025 thread and not here.

Thank god when you do a google search for "Atlantic City airshow" and filter to news, all the articles about the show being saved show up. Since the SJTA is providing the funds they could increase the tolls by 50¢ on the AC Expressway between 5 am that Tuesday and 11:59 pm after the airshow on Wednesday in Pleasantville and Egg Harbor to offset and maybe even help with the 2025 airshow.

It's been almost three weeks since the Press of Atlantic City leaked their "airshow in trouble" article which became "airshow saved".

I'd say it's been quiet on any airshow news since then but there's also been a lot of bad press in and about Atlantic City since then (eg. the raid on the mayor's home, the charges against the ACHS principal, casino workers suing about the smoking in casinos thing, Spirit furloughing pilots and closing their ACY pilot base, etc.). Hopefully we have a few home runs hit, so to speak, when it comes to the airshow lineup.

They have plenty of money and the show is good for their business.
I commented on your post on 3/19 about this and I want to follow up. As I said in my reply the casinos typically mail out promotional material to both my wife and I as we have our own separate casino cards for each casino in AC. At that time she got something from Borgata (and I didn't) about free garden tools and accessories. We've both gotten promotional stuff in the mail since then from Tropicana, Caesars, Resorts, and Hard Rock all advertising what's coming up in the next few months along with "hey we're also offering $10-20 in free slot play during certain days/weeks". No free or comped room offers were mentioned in those mailers, and in searching our accounts, we again have no free or comped room offers. That tells me they are having a difficult time getting rooms booked and can't afford to be giving out comped rooms - and people are probably getting tired of paying $400+ a night on Friday and Saturday nights.

How is this Polaris Ghost Squadron?

I'm still a bit upset I'll be missing the Thunderbirds in AC this year.

I've seen so many photos of their debut at Sun & Fun and let's say this - I wish I had been there.

They were flying as the Heavy Metal Jet Team and as the Black Diamond Jet Team in the 2011-2012 timeline and made appearances in AC back then. Great show - four L-39s and two T-33s or MiG-17s with an act that had some Thunderbird flair in it since they had a couple former Thunderbirds flying. Those former T-Birds are still flying with the Ghost Squadron. The other part of it is that you have Retired USAF (I forget his rank when he retired) Carl "Opi" Falcione narrating, and he did a fantastic job as narrator ten plus years ago when I saw Black Diamond in AC and at NAS Oceana (there's one Friday evening demo they did that was out of this world... and I'm glad someone filmed it); I think he probably did great at Sun & Fun. He's formerly from the Viper West Demo Team and I once read on social media that his time with Viper West was the two best years of his USAF career.

So, you've got four L-39s, three Alpha Jets, and one MiG-29 all as one flight. I'm looking forward to that. I'll also say it again... I think it'd be awesome to showcase only the MiG-29 in its own eight minute time slot and then a couple hours later have it fly with the other seven.

Trust me - you're not the only one upset about missing the Thunderbirds in AC this year (and next year, unless they have a change of heart). I hope we get to hear some official announcements from all the parties involved about this year's airshow.

Maybe it is time to move the show back to the AC airport and charge admission like most private shows do now.

I would be more inclined to pay $20 or $30 if the show was on-site with statics, etc.

Admission would cover the costs.

Having just seen them perform at Sun 'n Fun, I'll say that it's quite impressive to see eight dissimilar classic jets in formation, and for what's essentially a debut performance (I know these pilots have performed with other teams before, but this is a new act with some different types, so for all intents and purposes, it's their first time), it was a very enjoyable display. Just don't expect the Thunderbirds, and you'll get a kick out of them.

The L-39s are limited to non-aerobatic formation work. The MiG-29 has a few solo spots, but don't expect any tailslides or cobras or anything you might've seen an in-service Fulcrum doing in old videos. The highlight of their routine for me was the tribute to "Snort" Snodgrass, with the L-39s doing a formation flat pass and one of the Alpha Jets rolling around their smoke; it's a hallmark of the European and Arabian display teams, but not something we see much over on the Port Side of the Pond, so a nice touch. There are also some great maneuvers with the MiG and Alphas in formation.

This was an idea I had early on in the thread.

That's really cool.

Also, as a relative newb to airshows, can you direct me to a "maneuvers for dummies" cheat sheet or something?

I have had a great time every time I see a show, and have seen a lot more in recent years, but I couldn't identify any maneuvers or things like that. The best I can do is identify most models I see on sight, and that comes from building models as a kid and my parents ordering me those Time Life "Epic of Flight" books.

I'll tell you what my father taught me - and he's not a pilot. He happened to develop a love of aviation that rubbed off on me.

In one sentence he told me "The two basic maneuvers in aerobatics are the loop and the roll and most everything is based off of those two maneuvers."

There's a lot of good reading material that's out there and I would go on Amazon and search "aerobatics book"; one search yielded this:

https://www.amazon.com/Basic-Aerobatics ... 115&sr=8-4

It also sounds like you could use this, though I don't know why an updated version isn't out:

https://www.amazon.com/Field-Guide-Airp ... 111&sr=8-1

You might be able to find them in a Barnes & Noble, and I'm sure they'd let you skim through it real quick before purchasing - at least they did before the pandemic.
