Rob Reider To Retire After 2024 Season

Post by n33d4sp33d_85 » Wed Dec 06, 2023 5:46 am

Rob Reider announced on his Facebook that 2024 will be his final year as an airshow announcer.
Air Shows have been my primary source of income since 2006. 2024 will be my final season as an airshow announcer. It’s been a great run! Thanks to everyone who helped make it so.

Good for him. A well deserved retirement (though it was brought to my attention about two months ago via text).

I couldn't begin to count the number of airshows I've been to over the years in which he was the master of ceremonies. Probably heard him as many times as I've heard the late Howdy McCann, maybe even more.

I feel like with Howdy's sudden passing this year and Rob's upcoming retirement that the airshow industry is going to see a need for new and younger blood - at least one person I've brought this up with agrees with me. Trust me, you don't want me to get in front of a microphone... I don't fit "new" and "younger" by any stretch of the imagination.

Rob, congratulations on a tremendous career. His opening introductions to each air show and his breath of knowledge on each performer makes him a hard act to replace. He calls each act to the highest level of professionalism!

I'll miss hearing his voice, especially at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh alongside Danny "Hollywood" Clisham.

At least one person I've spoken to believes that, in light of Rob's upcoming retirement and Howdy's untimely passing this year, the airshow industry will need new, younger blood.

It wasn't me!

But in all seriousness, I had read a first draft from a friend who wanted to write an op-ed about this. Boy was it a scathing piece... some great points and a ton of not-so-great points all with one theme.
