The 2023 Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award was presented on Thursday, December 7 to Edwards Air Force Base for its presentation of the Aerospace Valley Air Show, Open House and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Expo in October of 2022.

Since 1988, the International Council of Air Shows has presented the Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award to the military air show, open house or flying event that best represents the spirit of community for which Dick Schram stood throughout his naval career.

The open house team at Edwards celebrated the 75th anniversary of supersonic flight in 2022, with a multi-faceted event that spanned an entire weekend. Over 200 schools from across the state California attended the largest Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Expo in USAF history with over 23,000 students joining on Friday alone and continuing throughout the weekend. In preparation for the 2022 Aerospace Valley Air Show, the 412 Operations Group and NASA also hosted a STEM outreach flyover for 50 surrounding schools. The flyover included a C-17, F-35, T-38, and NASA F-18 that flew over a route spanning 250 miles, 14 different communities and reached over 40,000 students.
